According to God's purpose, Amen.
We, the undersigned freeborn men and women, are
summoned by God in a time of judgement to separate ourselves into a covenanted relationship
with our Creator and one another, for the advancement of God's reign through his
son Jesus, the first born of the children of God. (Romans 8:29)
We freely and unreservedly
combine ourselves and our houses into this Covenant by acknowledging the sole authority
of God and God's Law in all matters, both worldly and spiritual, over and above all
existing laws, rulers, governments, religions and authorities of whatever nature.
For as those born of the divine spirit, we are freed from all allegiance to such
principalities and powers in order to bear true and complete witness to the new heaven
and new earth ordained by God that is come into being as the old world crumbles,
and principalities fall.
As witnesses of that new creation present among us, we therefore
combine through this oath or affirmation to form both a spiritual and a civic community
with its own constitution and laws. Animated as we are by the levelling love of God,
in which there are no rulers or servants, no rich or poor, we are one body of equal
men and women upon whose hearts and minds is written God's law. (Jeremiah 31:31-34)
For we recognize that only in such perfect communion as a remnant people can God's
purpose be made manifest, through that final separation of humanity prophesied by
Jesus that marks the dawn of God's kingdom. (Matthew 25:31-46)
God's sword has been
drawn, and it will not again be sheathed (Ezekiel 21); and that sword has cut through
our lives and separated us from all that was, to preserve a sacred remnant of humanity.
That spiritual fact is the basis of our Covenant and laws, to which each of us bears
personal witness as part of a royal priesthood of not simply believers, but those
who are equal with Jesus as first born children of God. (John 15:12-15)
holds true to this divine Covenant will enjoy the blessings of peace and justice
endowed by God to those whom God loves, as citizens of a called out and sanctified
community. But whosoever departs from this compact shall be denied such blessings
and the joy and perfection found only in the heart and mind of God.
In Witness to
this purpose, we have hereby signed and ratified this Covenant before God and our
congregation, at the dates and places indicated, after this solemn agreement between
God and God's people was composed and pronounced on the First Day of January in the
year 2014, on the land known as Winnipeg, Manitoba at the junction of two rivers.
